Proud of our language

IT was a great day for Malaysia on Sept 23 at the United Nations General Assembly in New York City when PM Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob delivered his speech in Bahasa Malaysia (BM).

I remember my schooling days in Tumpat, Kelantan, when we had National Language Week and then National Language Month when we had to speak BM. I entered the district elocution contest and came second. I also took part in a short drama contest in BM for non-Malays, and I’m proud to say we emerged champion. It didn’t matter our prize was only a face towel! It was fun learning.
