Issues on legality of living donor organ transplant

I REFER to the StarHealth infographic “A life-saving donation” in Sunday Star on Sept 18. In the Q&A part asking if organ donation is legal in Malaysia, the answer was “Yes. But for living organ donations, the Health Ministry only allows close blood relatives to donate to the patient.”

I would say this is not correct because the Health Ministry guidelines are not law even though they may reveal good medical practice. There is in existence no legislation, whether parliamentary or subsidiary, on living donor organ transplants.
