I COMMEND Roger Tan for his article, “The role of lawyers” (Sunday Star, Sept 4; online at https://bit.ly/3D4qVoH). Even though I am just a social worker and not a legal practitioner, I have always believed that helping the poor and needy is not merely an act of charity but also social justice.
Thus, the work of social workers and lawyers sometimes intersect. I often seek advice from lawyers as I am also involved in counselling clients in cases pertaining to domestic violence, child abuse, runaways, and minor misdemeanour.
