MALAYSIA’S Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik created history by becoming the first Malaysian men’s doubles world champions at the Badminton World Championships in Tokyo (Aug 22-28, 2022) in the tournament’s 45-year history.

In a keenly contested match, the pair – No.6 in world rankings – beat Indonesia’s three-time world champions Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan (world No.3) 21-19, 21-14. Chia and Soh rose to the occasion when it mattered. They were trailing in the first game 12-18; then scored six straight points before wrapping up the first game 21-19.
