Personal rewards of volunteering

AS someone who grew up with the belief that anything other than scoring As in examinations was pointless, volunteerism was definitely out of my vocabulary. Why waste your time on somebody else when you could be studying? Scoring strings of As would certainly guarantee a bright future ahead.

It took me more than 27 years to realise my belief was completely flawed. Acing exams isn’t a bad thing, but it is certainly not the be-all and end-all of human existence.
