THE late Tun Ismail Mohamed Ali, the first Malaysian governor of Bank Negara (1962–1980), was well known as a person of the highest integrity. It was said that he told his younger brother not to ever set foot in the central bank while he was governor!
Our regulators, including those at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), should strive to assimilate Ismail’s values and standards. But MACC, which is entrusted to fight corruption, has been mired in one controversy after another in the recent past.
