Authorities need public’s help to contain rabies

WITH two cases detected just 60km apart, we clearly have rabies to deal with in Selangor, “Selangor detects a second rabies case, says state Health director” (The Star, April 24; online at https://bit.ly/3kmKluq).

Rabies is deadly to both animals (in this case dogs) and humans, hence it must be dealt with seriously. As such, media reports that the Department of Veterinary Services is rounding up strays within a 10km radius of the index cases to test the animals for the disease is most reassuring, especially to the residents of the areas concerned.
