Real effects of excessive household debt


I RECENTLY read “Household debt sector remains manageable” (The Star, March 30; online at https://bit.ly/3uxLd53), and Bank Negara Malaysia’s latest Financial Stability Review report.

According to Bank Negara, Malaysia’s ratio of household debt-to-GDP declined to 89% at the end of 2021, and residential property loan accounted for 58% of household debt.
