Animal welfare laws not being enforced adequately, consistently

I REFER to a recent report in The Star concerning “Stray dogs found poisoned near Tasik Cermin in Gunung Rapat” in Ipoh, where more than 20 dogs were killed (Feb 26; online at bit.ly/star_ poisoned) and local council workers were seen cleaning up the carcasses.

This is not the first time such tragic news has been reported: Last year we were alerted to the news of stray dogs being shot in Kampar, Perak, by the local council. It’s heartbreaking to hear about yet another case of animals being treated with such cruelty. We’re not just talking about a few sick stray dogs here and there – we’re hearing reports of entire colonies of dogs being killed off altogether.
