Integration, not assimilation, is the right approach


FORMER prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad sought to clear up the “chopsticks” remark that he made last year, saying that his comment about chopsticks was an analogy to show the differences of cultures in Malaysia, “Dr M: Some people are making an issue of everything, including chopstick” (The Star, Jan 5; online at https://bit.ly/3HDsysd).

In an interview with a local Chinese radio station on Wednesday, he said he did not intend to play the race card but just wanted to describe how the Chinese community did not assimilate in Malaysia.
