THE offer of a discount on fines imposed for traffic offences by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) – which I dub the “PDRM year-end sale” – is sending the wrong message to the people.
While it is obviously a relief for those offenders, it does nothing to educate the public about their responsibilities when it comes to traffic rules and regulations. Traffic summons issued to offenders is a way of making them aware of those regulations and to ensure they abide by the law while on the road.
