BN FT Youth questions lack of action over probe into Zeti, husband’s links to 1MDB funds

The 1MDB crisis was a major lynchpin in helping secure the rise of Pakatan Harapan from 2016 - 2018, and the consequent downfall of the Barisan Nasional government.

Immediately after Barisan’s downfall, there was a massive effort to uncover the truth surrounding 1MDB. However, while all these were going on, Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz was appointed as one of the members of the Council of Eminent Persons advising the new Pakatan government. Around that time, she was also given the powerful position of Group Chairman of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB).

This is most curious, especially since she was the Bank Negara Governor during the period where 1MDB was active. Bank Negara plays a major role in keeping an eye on the movement of large chunks of money in the country.

How is it that despite having full access to intelligence, government agencies, sources and information related to the 1MDB case, no one then seemed to have noticed or even suspected Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz's involvement with 1MDB?

The head of MACC under Pakatan was a Pakatan political figure, so surely there can be no chance of MACC not cooperating with the government then?

In fact, it was not until after the transition of a new government that Dr Tawfiq Ayman was brought in for questioning in April 2021.

Last Friday, the MACC had revealed to the press that a total of US$15.4mil (RM65mil) in 1MDB-linked funds connected to a company co-owned by Dr Zeti’s husband Dr Tawfiq Ayman has been returned by Singapore to Malaysia.

While it is not disputed that Jho Low is just as involved, it is unusual that we treat Jho Low as the only person who has the answers on 1MDB, and launched a global search for him, when we had other implicated figures as Dr Zeti and Dr Tawfiq just sitting at home?

At least the MP for Subang Wong Chen was bold enough to call for immediate investigations into Dr Zeti's involvement on Friday's reveal. The rest of his comrades seem to be holding an uncomfortable silence.

Take action immediately, so that the 1MDB chaos can come to an end and we will finally have some answers.
