Applying a gender lens to Budget 2022


IT is important, now more than ever, that Malaysia’s national budget presents a gender-focused response, particularly in the economic recovery from Covid-19. A gender-sensitive budget is critical in ensuring that gender equality considerations are taken into account in tax and spending decisions, and must feature in fiscal policy moving forward.

As such, the Gender Budget Group (GBG), a coalition of 20 organisations calling for gender responsive budgeting, closely followed the Budget 2022 announcement by Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz on Friday.
