SOMETIMES, I wonder if we’re getting so accustomed to instant gratification that our surroundings are becoming instant trash bins for some people.
We can have two-minute noodles, instant coffee and we have hand sanitisers which we carry around but why do some people treat their trash like a basketball of some sort and just throw it out the window, thus treating the surroundings outside as an instant trash bin?
I find it appalling that some people throw out soiled diapers in public areas. In communal living (condominiums, apartments, etc), there are allocated areas in which one can discard trash. I doubt that they are unaware. Perhaps they are not living there and not paying the maintenance fees but, still, such behaviour is not justified.
These pests exist on the road as well. I’ve seen drivers who just wind down the car window and throw their trash out. I do not know why it’s so difficult to keep the trash in the car and only discard it at home (hopefully not via the window or balcony). There are proper ways of getting rid of trash.
Another litterbug variety that I recently came across is the kind that wants the garbage out of their residence. However, instead of properly disposing of it in allocated areas, they leave it near their neighbour’s house.
Is there anything the authorities can do? Perhaps stiffer fines or compulsory community service (cleaning the public areas) for those who are caught?
