Time to move beyond slogans and start walking the talk

THE recent racially-charged statement made on social media by a member of a political party against a national badminton player was uncalled for. It goes against the spirit of the “Malaysian Family” concept recently announced by the Prime Minister as well as the social cohesion that we have been working to build, not to mention sportsmanship.

For the past few months, we have witnessed an increase in individuals, groups and political parties stoking racial and religious sentiments, be it out of ignorance or on purpose. We rebuke this approach now more than ever as we need a much more cohesive society to persevere in overcoming the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
