Motion of confidence in Dewan Rakyat

PERAK Opposition chief Dr Abdul Aziz Bari is right in saying that a motion of confidence to prove support for Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as prime minister is not mandatory but it has been done “traditionally”, “Motion of confidence in Parliament for Ismail Sabri not mandatory, says Aziz Bari” (The Star, Sept 6; online at https://bit.ly/3DUbn4z).

Historically, motions of confidence are of two kinds – motion of confidence in the government or prime minister (tabled by the government or backbencher) and motion of no confidence in the government or prime minister (tabled by the Opposition).
