No freedom without testing

WHILE the Prime Minister’s announcement on the relaxation of movement restrictions for fully vaccinated people is welcome, I believe the matter has not been fully thought out.

Allowing home quarantine for foreign travellers entering Malaysia is a big mistake. We’ve already seen how home quarantine caused a massive spike in the number of Covid-19 positive cases. Allowing less stringent measures for these travellers increases the risk of dangerous mutations like the Lambda variant landing on our shores. These mutations may be resistant to the present vaccines, thus setting us back in our efforts to beat this pandemic.
