Tackling the forced labour issue in Malaysia

WE refer to the recent statement by Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan stating that Malaysia is ready to enter into strategic cooperation with the United States to address human trafficking issues, especially with regard to forced labour.

Though the statement revealed that a national action plan on forced labour is currently being developed in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation (ILO), there was a lack of details that does not allow for any review to be made of the efficacy of the plan.
