THURSDAY, July 1, marked an important milestone for science and technology in Malaysia: the national policy on the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) was launched by the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry. The plan provides more details about the country’s implementation of the range of IR4.0 technologies that will shape future businesses.
IR4.0 has become a global agenda as the world strives to achieve sustainable development. In 2018, the International Trade and Industry Ministry launched its Industry 4WRD (pronounced “forward”) plan, also based on IR4.0 but aimed at the manufacturing sector. But, as was emphasised during the July 1 event, IR4.0 has implications beyond manufacturing and industry. All of society will have to embrace it if the country is to fully benefit.
