AS a small business owner, I was truly upset and angry with the government for implementing the movement control order (MCO) last year and again this year. I felt the pandemic was being hyped up and there was no reason why we needed a second MCO.
However, after seeing what happened to my friend who was infected with Covid-19 and did not survive, I realised just how serious and deadly this pandemic is and why our government has to resort to such actions.
As an ordinary citizen, I cannot personally thank Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin or our Health director-general for their efforts in trying to contain this pandemic, but through this humble letter, I want to express my gratitude to them.
My small cafe was badly hit during the last MCO period. Thankfully, the government stepped in to assist and we pulled through. During this second MCO, we can also get help through the Permai Assistance Package.
If not for the wage subsidy programme, I would have been forced to let go of my staff. The wage subsidy of RM600 for each employee goes a long way for small business operators like me and I truly appreciate this assistance from the government.
Regardless of what other people say, my family and I are confident in the leadership of our prime minister. What we cannot understand is why certain politicians, who should be placing the well-being of the rakyat first, are pursuing their own political interests at a time when people are suffering from the devastating effects of the pandemic.
Once again, hats off to Muhyiddin and Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah for working tirelessly for the rakyat.
