Glad to have survived the year 2020

I READ with deep empathy the Sunday Star editorial “2020’s experiences prepare us for the future” (Dec 27; online at bit.ly/star_future).

This was supposed to be a special year for Malaysians. In 1991, then Prime Minister Tun Dr Maha-thir Mohamad mooted Vision 2020, the dream of making Malaysia a fully developed nation by this year. I was in my early 40s then and thought it was a vision worth growing old with. I was excited by the prospect of living in a First World country with a fully developed society.
