Lack of focus in implementation of No-plastic Day

To enhance the awareness of implementation of No-plastic Day and deter the public from using plastic bags in daily life, the Penang Government had announced that the present charge of 20 sen per plastic bag would be raised to RM1 when consumers request them from Jan 1,2021.

The state government said that since the implementation of non-plastic days on July, 2009, there have been signs of escalating usage of plastics, the increase in fine from 20 sen to RM1 per plastic bag would deter consumers and shoppers from using plastic bags.
