In tribute to the squad of 1972

I REFER to the article “Kampung boys who vowed the world” (StarSport, Aug.13; online at bit.ly/star_boys).

I am fairly certain that the excellent write-up by Rajes Paul about Datuk Namat Abdullah and our football team’s historic participation in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, (then) West Germany, has rekindled fond memories among many Malaysians. I recall that Malaysians from all walks of life were excited and proud that our national team had surpassed all expectations by qualifying for the Olympics.
