THE appointment of members of Parliament as heads of government-linked companies (GLC), government-linked investment companies (GLIC) and other government agencies is unconventional and most inappropriate.
In a parliamentary democracy, the cardinal role of elected representatives is to serve the people. MPs already shoulder the heavy responsibility of finding amicable solutions to the numerous problems and issues affecting the people. As lawmakers, they are required to take an active part in the debates in the august house, leading to the passing of laws.
