Keeping Florence Nightingale’s spirit alive and well

I JUST wanted to take this opportunity as a retired nurse (former chief matron) and a former president of the Malaysian Nurses Union to express my sincere thanks to doctors, nurses, paramedics. I also extend the same to all support staff in hospitals under the Health Ministry as well as its director-general, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, for their sacrifice, dedication and devotion to duty, and for going the extra mile as medical personnel. I am sure the rakyat appreciate it more than all of you will ever know.

You have answered the call of the nation to be the frontliners in treating and nursing those who have been stricken by Covid-19 without fear or favour. Nurses, you have kept the spirit and light of the “little lamp” raised by that famous nurse, Florence Nightingale, alive and burning. I am proud to have been a nurse for more than 34 years and sincerely hope that today’s nurses will not be disheartened or discouraged by any uncalled for comments.
