Moves for better trade relations with India


AMID the controversy over India restricting its import of Malaysian palm oil, the imbalance in trade between Malaysia and India has not been given any publicity.

The trade deficit to India is about US$4bil (RM20bil) annually and this has been the situation for decades. This imbalance could be rectified to improve trade relations and also ease the tension arising from Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s recent criticism of India’s policies on a number of issues.
