APPARENTLY Malaysia is not the only South-East Asian nation caught in a political deadlock now. On Tuesday (Feb 25), the prime minister of Timor Leste resigned after his ruling coalition collapsed. As startling as it is, our local Game of Thrones has actually set us back on the same footing as Asia’s youngest democracy.
However, several silver linings prevail in our current political storm. First and foremost, it has finally dawned on Malaysians that we should start voting for candidates based on merit and not on their political party affiliation. Choosing the lesser of two evils should no longer be our guiding principle at the polls.
