Important to call out the bullies


M. VEERA Pandiyan’s assertions in “Bending to mob rule” (The Star, Feb 6) would strongly resonate with moderate Malaysians. On paper, Malaysia has moved up five rungs to 51st among 126 countries in the World Justice Project’s (WJP) Rule of Law Index 2019. This index measures how the rule of law is “experienced and perceived in practical, everyday situations by the general public worldwide” based on surveys of more than 120,000 households and 3,800 experts.

However, we have seen relatively small vocal extremist groups in our midst striving to hold our nation hostage and threatening the public order and security of our nation. Sound administration and management of our country is not just about improving our economic goals or achievements. Ensuring harmony and racial integration is particularly important given the recent social stresses emanating from divisive racist rhetoric.
