Hash Clubs need to act responsibly

THE sport of “hash runs”, operated by clubs known as Hash House Harriers/Harriets, started in Malaysia in 1938 and has since spread globally to include more than 2,000 known chapters. The sport involves running along a trail marked with baking flour or (more commonly in Malaysia) small bits of marked paper. It’s a great activity involving exercise and the outdoors.

Unfortunately, in Penang the various hash clubs have become the biggest litterers of our beautiful forest trails. In developed parts of the world hash clubs will responsibly assign a “sweeper” who will run at the back of the pack and clean up any trail trash left behind.
