INDAH Water Konsortium (IWK) Sdn Bhd had to undertake cleanining works once again after the illegal discharge of waste (specifically, glycerine) by culprits in public IWK manholes in the Bukit Sentosa industrial area in Hulu Selangor.
After IWK received a report from Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (Luas) at 10am on Dec 30, IWK immediately notified the emergency department of the Department of Environment (DOE) Selangor and made a police report.
IWK personnel who rushed to the site identified by Luas found that the manhole had been vandalised and that there was also sewage overflow at Jalan Kamunting 2B. Our personnel then carried out chemical dosage work to control the situation as soon as possible. At the same time, IWK undertook desludging works to reduce the overflow of sewage into the nearby drain. IWK personnel also used a water-jetter to reopen the clogged sewer pipe.
The quick response by IWK personnel managed to curb the severity of the incident, especially in preserving the raw water source from pollution.
For readers’ information, the Bukit Sentosa IWK Sewerage Treatment Plant near the affected area was not affected by this irresponsible activity, but IWK will patrol and keep close surveillance on the plant.
