Hit law-breaking motorcyclists in their pockets

I DOUBT switching to electric motorcycles, which are less powerful and slower, will turn motorcyclists into traffic law-abiding citizens, “Loke: Impractical to ban kap chai” (TheStarOnline, Oct 30 at https://bit.ly/2NF2gvn).

While the high road accident fatalities involving motorcyclists and pillion riders can be attributed to the speed of the motorcycles, common violations of traffic laws are not related to speed. It is common to see motorcyclists beating the red light, riding against the flow of traffic especially in one-way streets and making illegal U-turns. In Penang where pedestrian walkways are disabled-friendly, motorcyclists can be seen riding on these walkways and at times behave like they have the right to do so.
