Incentives for fertility treatment lauded

WE refer to the letter “Positive aspect of falling fertility rate” (The Star, Oct 26). The writer has a valid point in saying that the fertility rate in Malaysia has dropped below the replacement level to an all-time low of 1.8 babies per woman of reproductive age.

He, however, equates the recently announced Budget 2020 tax incentives and EPF withdrawal for IVF (invitro fertilisation) as an indiscriminate encouragement for women to have babies regardless of pregnancy intentions, and creating unintended pregnancies.
