In search of young and visionary agro-entrepreneurs

REFERRING to M. Veera Pandiyan’s comments in the article “Just too much to swallow” (The Star, Sept 18), I agree that the participation of youth would unleash a transformational change in the agro-food sector and reduce the costly food import bill we currently bear.

Like Charles Dickens’ novel, A Tale Of Two Cities, the story of our agro-food sector is a tale of two different farming operations – the preponderantly traditional small-scale farming dominated by smallholders versus the modern commercial operations managed by agro-entrepreneurs.
