Nip discrimination in the bud to protect job seekers

THE Joint Action Group for Gender Equality (JAG) urges the government to protect job seekers from discrimination under the Employment Act, Sabah Labour Ordinance, and the Sarawak Labour Ordinance. This move would benefit thousands of job seekers as well as over half a million people who are currently unemployed in Malaysia.

JAG notes that the Human Resources Ministry is still discussing the proposed anti-discrimination provision for job seekers with its stakeholders. In view of this, JAG urges the Minister, M. Kulasegaran, to ensure that the anti-discrimination provision is kept in the amendments to the Employment Act.
