THE recent decision by the government to proceed with the Tadmax 1200MW Pulau Indah power station project comes at an opportune time and augurs well for the economy, as the plant would provide a stable and reliable generation capacity to meet the growing demand for electricity in the country.
The proposed power plant using the latest H-class design, state-of-the-art technology and high efficiencies would complement the government’s initiatives in the renewable energy sector by providing a solid base of dependable capacity to support and reinforce the power produced by renewable energy sources particularly solar, which operates at lower capacity factors (typically around 16%, depending on the degree of irradiance) compared to 80% or more for a gas turbine combined cycle plant.
