Landlords entitled to their choice

REFERRING to the letter “Outlaw race discrimination for tenants” (The Star, Aug 21), I am disheartened that the writer was discriminated against in his quest for a tenancy. However, I have to disagree with him and also with Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin’s plan to criminalise landlords on the basis of discrimination when renting out rooms or properties.

I can understand the feelings of the writer, but I prefer to take it as a personal preference of the landlord’s rather than an intention to discriminate the potential tenant based on his race or religion.
