I REFER to the article by Johan Jaaffar, “A need for ‘compassionate banking’” (The Star, Aug 19).

One needs to understand that as far as customer services are concerned, the word “compassion” is alien to the commercial banking system. It’s all about profits and making more profits, unlike government service where, more often than not, compassion is generally used as a mitigating factor by civil servants.
