Be practical on choice of subjects for schools

I REFER to “Make it elective, not compulsory” (The Star, Aug 8) and “Khat could be a burden to students, says Mah” (Aug 5).

My understanding is that Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz and Dr Mah Hang Soon, who is MCA deputy president, are on the same page on the issue of learning khat, i.e. whether in Bahasa Melayu or Art, the choice should be left to the parents and students; it just cannot be made mandatory for all Year Four pupils next year as planned.
