Road to producing new champions

BADMINTON Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria has said that Malaysia won’t need to wait 10 to 15 years to produce another world-class player like Datuk Lee Chong Wei. We have world-class facilities and coaches to do it in five years, he said.

Norza may be right in saying that we should focus on producing another top player in five years. What we may fail to understand is that it’s not excellent facilities or the best coaches alone that produce a world number one player; it also takes the drive of players to become world class in their chosen field.
