I REFER to the letter “Do the right course in aircraft maintenance” (The Star, April 19). I too was in the dark about the subject and I am thankful that I came upon the letter, which clearly explained that those who did not do the aircraft maintenance professional “licensing” programme would not be allowed to work on operating (life) aircraft.
After obtaining his SPM results, my son wanted to pursue a professional course in aircraft maintenance. So we visited several prestigious colleges and universities to explore the courses they offered in this field. To my dismay and surprise, most of the colleges and universities we visited only offered diploma/degree courses in aircraft maintenance. These institutions seemed to be totally ignorant of the professional licensing programme.
