WE refer to the reports headlined “China’s ban, Malaysia’s bane” and “When trash is cash” (The Star, April 24). In the second report, it is stated that 111 containers of contaminated plastic waste unfit for recycling at Westports and 18 containers at Northport were still unclaimed.

Selangor Freight Forwarders and Logistics Association, the largest association in Selangor representing the forwarding industry, wishes to comment on these reports. Our association and the Federation of Malaysian Freight Forwarders (national association) fully support the government’s initiative to stop the illegal import of plastic waste into this country. In fact, we gave our full support when this issue was brought up by a member of the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) during our session with them in June last year. Our associations maintain our commitment and support for the government’s initiative on banning the import of unrecyclable plastic waste.
