THE commonly held image of Islam as portrayed by the Western press is one of terrorism, wars, poverty, immigrants, persecutions and internecine wars, especially in the Middle Eastern countries. But all this is driven by greedy political imperatives for power, wealth and territory. The actions of these countries are anathema to the true teachings of Islam.

There is, however, a refreshing spirit of Islam emerging in New Zealand as a result of the massacre of Muslim worshippers at the two mosques in Christchurch on March 15.
