Allow cops to deal with open burning cases

WHAT a relief to hear that the toxic waste incident at Sungai Kim Kim, Johor, is under control now. Having the police on board to nab the perpetrators is a good move rather than just relying on the Department of Environment (DOE).

Last Sunday, open burning was blatantly done in a neighbourhood in Section 27, Shah Alam. In future, can cases of open burning be placed under police jurisdiction? Evidence (smoke, fire and haze) can be clearly seen and the neighbourhood police can respond faster. Let us not wait for an inferno to happen, prevention is better than a cure, after all.
