Protect our right to a smoke-free environment

WE REFER to the letter “Bone to pick with Health Ministry on move to make smokers quit” (The Star, Oct 16). Firstly, we would like to congratulate the author who has obeyed the law by not smoking at gazetted places and has avoided smoking near children and non-smokers. We acknowledge that it is the author’s fundamental right to eat what he/she wants (even at the risk of a health condition) because that is his/her right.

Similarly, we also acknowledge that one has freedom to smoke but that should only be done in private places.
