I AM reading with concern and alarm the many reports about the way the Kelantan state government is treating its orang asli communities, specifically the Temiar whose fight for their homes in the forest has forced them to erect blockades in the past couple of years.

I also read with disbelief reports of the state government’s consent for some areas in its pristine forest to be logged and turned into durian plantations.
