Extend the scope and emphasis of the DLP

THE letter “Need to master English” (The Star, Aug 30) is proof of the unceasing and relentless appeal for a more effective and sustainable emphasis on the teaching and learning of English in our schools.

Our newly-minted Education Minister has not said a word about the Dual Language Programme and has only mentioned the Highly Immersive Programme (HIP) for English in one of his recent speeches. He must be made aware of the existence of this programme since 2016 because we want to make sure that DLP will not be left by the wayside with the new government in place.
