AS we celebrate National Day on Friday, every adult Malaysian needs to evaluate whether he is a responsible and independent citizen who is able to make considered decisions on all matters that involve the self, the family, the community, and the nation. These contributions help the overall strength and stature of Malaysia as an independent nation.

Such a citizen has a working knowledge of the Malaysian Constitution and the reasons behind some of the provisions therein; the racial, religious and cultural differences that coexist in Malaysia; and happily abides by the tenets of the Rukun Negara.
