Consider other forms of national service

IN view of the recent announcement about winding up national service, I would like to suggest that revising the said scheme could create an opportunity to think out of the box and come up with new ideas that would give work experience and contacts to young people, especially those not born into well-connected or wealthy families.

Is it possible that national service could be designed to provide one-year internships in government service, the private sector and NGOs?
