REFERENCE is made to the report “Over 43,000 denied entry this year” (The Star, July 26). The director-general of Immigration must be lauded for the stern action taken against illegal foreign workers subsequent to the expiry of the various amnesty programmes. The problems are mainly caused by irresponsible and blood-sucking agents and sub-agents who are just concerned about profiteering and don’t care a hoot about our beloved country’s security and safety.
Having said that, there are also other parties who should be held responsible. Many companies were appointed as authorised agents to legalise foreign workers under various amnesty initiatives, including the Rehiring Programme and the 6P and 3P initiatives. But these companies have clearly shirked their responsibilities.
