IT is unfortunate that Malaysia has been in the spotlight for its shortcomings on corporate governance in the past decade. High profile incidents such as the 1MDB saga, Felda’s land controversy and cases of mismanagement at prominent public-listed companies have not helped in fostering trust in corporate institutions or the accountancy practice.
In Malaysia’s new political era, we can expect to see tighter controls and more reporting regulations introduced for both government bodies and corporations.
